Rep. Jarrells Introducing Ohio Sports Commission Meant to Drive Statewide Economic, Community Growth

COLUMBUS - State Representative Dontavius L. Jarrells (D-Columbus) today announced the introduction of a groundbreaking bill to establish the Ohio Sports Commission. This innovative commission will serve as a dynamic force in attracting, promoting, and nurturing sports events at both national and international levels across Ohio.

The sporting industry in Ohio has created significant revenue for the state. The 2024 MLS All-Star Game in Columbus is projected to add $20 million to the local economy. Since 2002, Columbus has amassed $625 million in visitor spending. Northeast Ohio's sporting events have contributed over $860 million since 2000, with the 2021 NFL Draft alone injecting $42 million. Greater Cincinnati's professional sports generate over $550 million annually, showcasing the industry's substantial economic impact across the state.
