Rep. Jarrells Calls on Governor DeWine to Bring Ohio's National Guard Home, Invest in Ohio

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Dontavius L. Jarrells (D-Columbus) today released to following statement concerning Governor Mike DeWine’s decision to send 150 National Guard members to support the District of Columbia National Guard: 

“Sending the Ohio National Guard to Washington, D.C. is not about safety, it is about control. Local law enforcement is fully capable of maintaining order without troops patrolling civilian streets. This unnecessary escalation risks civil liberties, erodes trust, and sets a dangerous precedent. Ohioans deserve leadership that addresses the real challenges we face every day, skyrocketing housing costs, children caught in a broken welfare system, and families struggling to access healthcare, not political theater at the expense of our democracy,” said Rep. Jarrells.
