Rep. Jarrells Announces $38K to Improve Health, Safety at Columbus Developmental Center
COLUMBUS — Assistant Minority Leader Dontavius L. Jarrells (D-Columbus) today announced that the Ohio Controlling Board allocated $38K in funding to support a local residential school for people with developmental disabilities.
The Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) will receive $38K for the construction of exterior lighting upgrades at Columbus Developmental Center in Franklin County, which currently occupies over 90 acres on the west side of Columbus.
“I am proud to help bring this critical funding back to our communities. This investment is a vital step toward fostering inclusivity and providing essential support for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Residential schools such as The Columbus Development Center not only create a safe and nurturing environment but also promote personal growth and community integration. By providing funds to support their efforts, we are paving the way for enhanced quality of life, empowering individuals to achieve their full potential and positively contribute to society,” said Rep. Jarrells.
Details about the project:
- The Columbus Developmental Center’s exterior lighting across the facility is inadequate with several areas being poorly lit. This project would install additional exterior lighting, including streetlights, throughout the entire campus to enhance security and allow residents and staff to safely travel around the campus. Additionally, this project will switch the current metal halide lights to LED.
