COLUMBUS — State Rep. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) today announced that the Ohio Department of Development has awarded $375,353 in state funding to two Ohio businesses through the Minority Development Financing Advisory Board, reinforcing the state’s commitment to empowering minority and women-owned businesses and driving economic growth.

“Investing in minority and women-owned businesses is about strengthening communities, creating jobs, and ensuring that Ohio’s economy is built for everyone,” said Rep. Jarrells, a member of the Minority Development Financing Advisory Board. “For too long, minority business owners have faced systemic barriers to accessing capital. This funding is a step toward leveling the playing field, giving these businesses the resources they need to grow, innovate, and thrive. When we invest in minority-owned businesses, we invest in the future of Ohio.”

 The approved funding includes:

We Can Code IT, LLC (Cuyahoga County) – $262,753

Founded in 2015, We Can Code IT is a technology training organization offering immersive boot camps in full-stack software development, cybersecurity, and data analytics, as well as micro-credential courses. The loan will be used to refinance existing debt, saving the company over $55K and helping retain five jobs.

Flavor 91 Inc. (Franklin County) – $112,500

A family-owned restaurant established in 2016, Flavor 91 sources food from local Ohio farms and provides fresh, healthy meal options to central Ohio communities. The loan will support leasehold improvements, allowing the business to expand its space and create 15 new jobs in Whitehall and the surrounding area.

These investments reflect Ohio’s continued efforts to expand economic opportunity, break down financial barriers, and empower entrepreneurs from all backgrounds.
