COLUMBUS – State Rep. Dontavius L. Jarrells (D-Columbus) and Majority Whip Josh Williams (R-Sylvania Twp.) today celebrated the enactment of bipartisan House Bill (HB) 57, which increases access to overdose-reversal drugs in Ohio schools.

“This law is about saving lives and protecting our children. No parent should ever endure the loss of a child because help was too far away. By making overdose-reversal medication available in our schools, we are empowering educators to act with urgency, compassion, and care when every second counts. I want to thank Governor DeWine and my colleagues at the Statehouse for standing together to make sure every Ohio school is equipped to save a life,” said Rep. Jarrells.

HB 57, now law, authorizes schools to store and administer overdose-reversal medication, such as Naloxone, in emergencies to prevent fatal overdoses among students and staff. It requires that medication be securely stored yet accessible to trained personnel, ensuring a fast response in critical situations.
