COLUMBUS – State Rep. Dontavius Jarrells (D-Columbus) announced today that the Ohio Controlling Board approved over $15M to be allocated to Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensations (BWC) for renovations to the William Green Building on West Spring Street in downtown Columbus. The BWC is the exclusive provider of workers’ compensation insurance in Ohio, and it is one of the largest state-run insurance systems in the U.S.

“I am extremely pleased to see the approval of these funds. These essential repairs will ensure that the William Green Building remains as an asset to our community as it has been for the past 30 years,” said Rep. Jarrells.

At over 30 years old, the William Green Building needed numerous renovations to ensure that it could continue to effectively serve the public. These improvements include renovations to the building’s ADA entrances, repair of the building’s aging plumbing system, mitigation of water damage, technological modernization of the building’s lobbies, and addressing HVAC problems.

Additionally, the Controlling Board approved $10M for the Licking County Board of Commissioners for fiscal years 2024 and 2025 to finance improvements on several roads impacted by the Intel Development Project. At over $20B, this investment from Intel will be the largest in State history, and Intel’s two microchip factories are projected to create 3,000 permanent positions with an average salary of about $130,000. The project has been hailed as a crucial way to retain graduates from Columbus State Community College and The Ohio State University by providing employment opportunities within Ohio.

The Controlling Board approved other notable items:

  • $385K for The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) to study the accessibility of state unemployment information for Ohioans from differing backgrounds, and create solutions to make information useful for more Ohioans.
  • $979K for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to repair and improve two ramps and parking lots at Alum Creek State Park.
  • $124K and $95Kfor Columbus State Community College to fund a speaker upgrade project at the college.
