Republicans Prioritize Censorship, Discrimination Over Freedoms, Economic Growth with SB 1's Passage
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Darnell Brewer (D-Cleveland) today responded to the House passage of Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Higher Education Destruction Act:
“At a time when Ohioans are concerned about high tuition, job security, school lunch debt, breakfast and lunch for all Ohio students, combating gun violence, safer neighborhoods, and putting food on the table, SB 1 does nothing to address these everyday issues. Instead, it focuses on banning diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs by adding bureaucratic hurdles to classroom discussions and stripping faculty of their hard-won union rights. This will not improve anyone’s day-to-day life; it will only serve to divide us further,” said Rep. Brewer.
In trying to solve problems that do not exist, SB 1 creates new issues that will increase costs, stifle growth, and prevent Ohio’s young adults from reaching their full potential.
