COLUMBUS — State Rep. Darnell T. Brewer (D-Cleveland) today continues to urge his colleagues to take concrete measures to prevent gun violence in Ohio. Between August 31 and September 8, 2025, at least 12 Ohioans lost their lives due to gun violence. During that time, Ohio communities experienced over 30 separate gun-related incidents, including two mass shootings one in Cleveland and another near Cincinnati. Countless families have been shattered, and entire neighborhoods continue to cope with the trauma caused by senseless violence.

“As a state and as a people, we cannot keep accepting these tragedies,” said Rep. Brewer. “We see the numbers. We hear the cries of parents. And yet, far too often, we witness inaction from those elected to lead. When will enough be enough to put our ‘thoughts and prayers’ into action!”

Rep. Brewer reiterated his call for Ohioans to continue to hold their legislators accountable.

“I am asking the citizens of Ohio to turn their voices and outcries into votes. Change will only come when we hold leaders accountable and demand solutions that save lives,” said Rep. Brewer.

Rep. Brewer called on his colleagues to join him in transforming grief into coordinated action. He is specifically asking members of the General Assembly to organize P.L.A.N. Ohio Townhalls and Resource Fairs in their respective districts, events designed to:

  • Prevent gun violence through education and safe storage awareness.
  • Listen to survivors, families, and community voices.
  • Act through advocacy and legislative engagement.
  • Navigate available resources for healing, trauma support, and community safety.

“I want to thank the colleagues who have already taken the initiative to bring P.L.A.N. Ohio events to their communities. These events are a vital step in showing our constituents that we hear them, see their pain, and are committed to finding solutions,” added Rep. Brewer. “To my fellow legislators, I encourage you to prioritize this. Together, we can make our voices heard and create safer neighborhoods and districts across Ohio.”

Rep. Brewer will continue to advocate for legislation that addresses the urgent need for common-sense gun safety measures, community investment, and trauma-informed support for victims and survivors.
