Rep. Brewer Announces Expanded, Back-to-School Tax-Free Holiday
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Darnell T. Brewer (D-Cleveland) today announced that the expanded, back-to-school Ohio sales tax holiday started Tuesday, July 30th and runs through Thursday, August 8th. During the tax-free holiday, there will be no state or local sales or use tax on all tangible personal property that is $500 or less.
“With the ever-rising cost of today's goods, it is important that as a state legislature we do everything in our ability to help everyday Ohioans with their essential purchases. I implore everyone to take advantage of this tax-free holiday and prepare your student for this upcoming school year,” said Rep. Brewer.
In 2018, state lawmakers passed legislation making this three-day, back-to-school sales tax holiday a recurring yearly holiday.
In 2024, Am. Sub. House Bill (HB) 33 expanded the three-day sales tax holiday to at least three days, including the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of August each year if a budget surplus exists.
