Rep. Brewer Announces "Bring Columbus to District 18" Event Series: Three Town Halls, Three Days, Three Critical Topics
COLUMBUS — State Rep. Darnell T. Brewer (D-Cleveland) is thrilled to share details on hosting an upcoming event series, "Bringing Columbus to District 18." This event series offers constituents a unique opportunity to engage directly with state officials in discussing key issues affecting their community from September 17-19, 2024.
"As a representative, I am dedicated to ensuring the people's voices are heard and that state resources come directly to the district. Inviting and including residents is crucial to bridge the gap between Columbus and District 18. I encourage all residents to attend,” said Rep. Brewer.

1. Driver's License Suspension Town Hall
- Date: September 17th, 2024
- Time: 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
- Location: Maple Heights High School- 1 Mustang Way, Maple Heights, Ohio
State Rep. Brewer (D-Cleveland) will host this town hall on the growing concerns caused by driver's license suspensions in District 18. He will be joined by special guest Registrar Charlie Norman of the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. In addition, 13 municipalities and 6 Mayors' courts in Cuyahoga County have offered participation.
This event is being held in conjunction with the Drive to Justice Coalition Cleveland, Neighborhood Connections, Towards Employment, The Marshall Project, and Policy Matters Ohio to assist in educating Cleveland residents about driver's license suspensions and to advocate for the passage of House Bill (HB) 29 and Senate Bill (SB) 37. This is not a driver's license restoration clinic, but a panel discussion among judges, legal experts, and survivors of license suspension.
2. Education Town Hall

- Location: John F. Kennedy High School -15111 Miles Ave, Cleveland, OH
This town hall will be organized around the major issues about education within District 18, Representatives from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Development and the Ohio Department of Children and Youth will explain what their departments do in setting policy priorities. This discussion will clarify existing policies and bring about additional valuable ideas for reaching out to the community to improve academic results.
3. Economic Development Town Hall
- Date: September 19th, 2024
- Time: 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
- Location: Garfield Heights Civic Center - 5407 Turney Rd, Cleveland, OH
This event will emphasize the economic concerns District 18 businesses are encountering. Monica Womack, Minority Business Development Director for the State of Ohio, and Vaughn Johnson from the Cuyahoga County Small Business Office will discuss economic and funding opportunities in the State and county. This town hall is targeted towards entrepreneurs and businesses of all sizes to help them better understand how to access resources and support. In addition, new companies will be celebrated and recognized in District 18 during the event.
