Rep. Brewer Announces $766K in Grants to Combat Homelessness in Cuyahoga County
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Darnell Brewer (D-Cleveland) today announced that the Ohio Department of Development awarded $766K in grants to combat homelessness in Cuyahoga County.
“Combating homelessness in Ohio and Cuyahoga County requires a comprehensive approach that combines affordable housing, supportive services, and community collaboration. By providing funding to address the root causes—economic inequality, lack of mental health resources, and insufficient affordable housing—we hope the funding will create pathways to stability and dignity for all individuals and families. Together, we can turn crisis into opportunity, ensuring everyone has a place to call home,” said Rep. Brewer.
Funding was allocated to this/these nonprofit and local government agencies:
- Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry: $391K grant to manage a 415-bed emergency shelter for homeless single men.
- The Salvation Army: $375K grant to operate a 140-bed emergency shelter for households with children.
In total, $20.5M was awarded through the Homeless Crisis Response program to assist 47 nonprofit and local government agencies across the state with homelessness prevention, rapid re-housing, and emergency shelter services. The funds will assist 34 agencies operating emergency shelters and support 13 housing stability programs to benefit 64,676 Ohioans.
