COLUMBUS—The Ohio House of Representatives today passed House Bill 33, the State Operating Budget for fiscal years 2024-25, announced State Rep. Cindy Abrams (R-Harrison).

The House-led budget commits substantial resources to economic and workforce development, family enrichment, and education for Ohioans of all ages. House Bill 33 is a fiscally responsible balanced budget that supports everyday Ohioans and lays the foundation for the future by investing in the state and maximizing state resources.

The House budget dedicates $80 million over the biennium to the Law Enforcement Assistance Fund, which will be used to fund peace officer and trooper continuing professional training. All peace officers will be required to complete 24 hours of continuing professional training each year and may be reimbursed for up to 40 hours of training.

“The Law Enforcement Assistance Fund will provide our peace officers support and training to set them up for success, while also promoting public safety,” said Abrams. “As a member of the House Finance Committee, I am proud to have voted in favor of a budget that positively impacts all Ohioans and makes our great state better.”

The budget also ensures access to quality education by increasing eligibility for EdChoice from 250% to 450% of the federal poverty level. The increase makes a family of four making $135,000 now eligible.

Additional provisions highlighted by Abrams are as follows:

-          $3 million in fiscal year 2024 for the construction of the Hamilton County Regional Safety Complex

-          $400,000  for Bethany House Services, a homeless shelter for pregnant and parenting youth

The state operating budget is a two-year budget that funds the operation of state agencies and programs.

The budget awaits consideration from the Ohio Senate.
