Abrams Honors Fallen Cincinnati Police Officers with Road Naming
COLUMBUS - Thursday, State Representative Cindy Abrams (R-Harrison) honored fallen Cincinnati Police Officers Dennis Bennington and Robert Seiffert during a memorial highway sign designation ceremony. The sign will recognize the officers along a portion of I-71.
Joined by Abrams was State Representative Tom Brinkman (R-27th House District), State Senator Louis Blessing III (R-Cincinnati), Fraternal Order of Police personnel and the families of Officer Bennington and Officer Seiffert.
“It is important to pay tribute to these heroes who dedicated their lives to the city and citizens of Cincinnati, each serving for over 8 years, and paid the ultimate sacrifice,” said Abrams. “This will serve as a reminder to honor and appreciate the men and women in law enforcement who protect our safety every day.”
The legislation was passed in an omnibus bill, House Bill 291 and was signed into law back in April.
Officers Bennington and Seiffert were killed in the line of duty on March 6, 1979. While patrolling, they discovered a man who had a long history of charges for kidnapping and assault and an open felony warrant for robbery. They were fatally shot by this violent criminal after pulling him over to investigate further. The legacy of their sacrifice will continue to be recognized 42 years after the tragedy.
