COLUMBUS - The Cincinnati Public Library has hit the milestone of one million Imagination Library Books, announced State Representative Cindy Abrams (R-Harrison).

“Congratulations to the Cincinnati Public Library on their success,” said Abrams. “Learning to read is a fundamental milestone for every child and I applaud the Library’s commitment to helping our children grow into lifelong learners.”

The Cincinnati Public Library began participating in the Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library in February 2020. To ensure that children in Ohio between ages zero and five are well supplied with reading material, families enrolled in the program receive one free book a month through the mail.

The importance of the program has been supported by research that finds a child with 25 books in their home successfully finishes an average of two additional years of schooling compared to their peers without books in their home.

While the program originally launched in 2019, it was made possible in Hamilton County by partnership with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, which plays a role in distributing books across the county.

“The importance of this program for Ohio’s kids cannot be understated and I look forward to further lending my support in the future,” said Abrams.
