Solemn Anniversary of Roe v. Wade's Reversal Brings Renewed Fight for Reproductive Freedom

House Democrats Urge Defeat of Issue 1 to Protect Majority Rule

COLUMBUS – House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington), on the eve of the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision overturning Roe v. Wade, vows to protect women’s reproductive rights and defeat Issue 1 in August, which would shred our constitution, end majority rule in our state, and snuff out the principle of “one person, one vote.”

“In the year since Roe was shamelessly overturned, we’ve seen heartbreaking stories over and over again of women dealing with torment, terror, and trauma because they struggled to get necessary and appropriate abortion care,” said Leader Russo. “The majority of Ohioans want access to reproductive rights enshrined directly into our state’s constitution. On August 8, we will vote NO on Issue 1 and protect our freedom to determine our future.”

In the year since the reversal of Roe, over 23-million women now live in states with more restrictive healthcare. Yet a new USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll shows one in four Americans say state efforts in the past year to impose strict limits on abortion access have made them more supportive of abortion rights.
