State Rep. Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) today announced her appointment to the State Council on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, a body established to advise the Department of Defense on Ohio’s compliance with the Interstate Compact of Educational Opportunity for Military Children. Currently, all 50 states and the District of Columbia participate in the Compact, which was created to resolve educational challenges faced by military children when transferring between school districts or states.
“The unique sacrifices our military families make when they are asked to move every two or three years for military assignments can create inadvertent barriers that affect the education of our military children,” said Rep. Russo. “I look forward to bringing my experience to this committee to help address some of the issues facing military families during these transitions so that they may learn, grow, and thrive right here in Ohio.”
Rep. Russo is a long-time advocate for military families and comes from a long line of men and women who have taken an oath to serve and protect the United States through military service. She served on the Armed Services and Veterans Affairs Committee in the 133rd General Assembly and is currently the Co-Chair of the Ohio Legislative Children’s Caucus.
