Leader Russo Announces Approval of $8.4M for Election-Related Activities Ahead of November Election
COLUMBUS - House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) today announced that the Controlling Board has approved the release of $8.4M to fund the Ohio Secretary of State’s office to provide election-related activities ahead of the November 2024 general election.
“Voting is more than a responsibility, it is a right,” said Leader Russo. “And it is the responsibility of the government to protect that right through accessible and transparent elections. These funds are intended to ensure a smooth election and educate voters on their options to access the ballot in November.”
The funding will be used by the local county boards of election to purchase additional electronic poll books, pay for the printing & mailing of absentee ballots, and produce several election-related public service announcements (PSAs) encouraging Ohioans to register to vote and reminding them to vote on or before Nov. 5.
In addition to funding for new pollbooks, the Controlling Board also approved funding for election-related PSAs and for the printing and mailing of vote-by-mail ballots. The Secretary of State’s office estimates that as many as 8M vote-by-mail ballot applications will be printed, addressed, and delivered for the Nov. 5 election.
