COLUMBUS – Ohio House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) and State Representative Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) today announced they are co-sponsoring a House resolution expressing the support of a “YES” vote on the Issue 1 citizen-led ballot initiative to end partisan gerrymandering in Ohio.

“This resolution is necessary because there is a constant stream of lies and misinformation surrounding the true nature of Issue 1, especially following the approved ballot language that was intentionally confusing and misleading," said Leader Russo. “Ohioans will be voting “YES” on Issue 1 because they know it’s citizens, not politicians, who should have the ultimate power to change their government.”

The resolution notes that voting “YES” on Issue 1 would eliminate partisan gerrymandering by placing the redistricting process in the hands of Ohio citizens rather than politicians and paid lobbyists. It further notes that voting “YES” on Issue 1 would also establish the Ohio Citizens Redistricting Commission (OCRC), ensuring a fair and transparent process that reflects the diverse voices of our state.

“I’m proud to jointly-sponsor this resolution because Ohio is one of the most gerrymandered states in the nation and Republicans are desperate to protect their fraudulent grip on power. This resolution will cut through the lies and help voters learn the truth that voting “YES” on Issue 1 will end partisan gerrymandering in Ohio for good and will increase the representation of diverse voices and communities at the Statehouse," said Rep. Upchurch.
