House Democrats Call on Governor DeWine to Veto Anti-Economic, Anti-Workers' Rights Senate Bill 1
COLUMBUS — The Ohio House Democratic Caucus today sent a letter to Governor Mike DeWine respectfully requesting he veto Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Higher Education Destruction Act.
“Senate Bill 1 does not address the biggest concerns that Ohioans have regarding higher education: affordability and ensuring more Ohio students have the opportunity to attend our universities and colleges. This bill has real consequences for everyday people in Ohio. Our higher education institutions, and the $70B in annual economic activity that they create, are at risk with this hastily passed and short-sighted legislation,” wrote House Democrats to Governor DeWine. “You have an opportunity to protect the future of Ohio’s institutions of higher education, and your legacy as Ohio’s governor, by vetoing this bill and requiring the legislature to negotiate terms that are more amenable to the will of Ohioans.”
In trying to solve problems that do not exist, SB 1 creates new issues that will increase costs, stifle growth, and prevent Ohio’s young adults from reaching their full potential.
