Rep. Somani: Issue 2 Will Create Jobs, Fix Countless Community Projects
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Anita Somani (D-Dublin) today released the following statement concerning Issue 2’s resounding passage by Ohio’s voters:
“I voted for Issue 2 because it will directly help our local communities to invest in our infrastructure. This is a great way to improve the roads, bridges, and water treatment plants in our cities and towns without any increases to local taxes for residents. Great infrastructure ensures that our communities can flourish, which benefits every Ohioan, not just the wealthy few,” said Rep. Somani.
With Issue 2's approval, the State Capital Improvement Program will create tens of thousands of jobs and issue general obligation bonds up to $250 million annually, an increase from the current $200 million per year. Issue 2 will also help local governments with critical infrastructure projects. Ohioans first voted for the program as a lawmaker-backed constitutional amendment in 1987 and have since renewed it four times.
