State Representative Adam Holmes (R-Nashport) today announced that the Ohio House of Representatives has approved House Concurrent Resolution 6, legislation that demonstrates the current legislature’s continued support of the Ohio Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial.

The 250th anniversary of the United States of America will be observed nationally in 2026. During the 134th General Assembly, the legislature created the Ohio Commission for the U.S. Semiquincentennial to plan, encourage, develop, and coordinate the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and the impact of Ohioans on the nation’s past, present, and future.

H.C.R. 6 reinforces the legislature’s commitment to this mission as planning for the momentous occasion continues.

“Our purpose is to honor, recognize, celebrate, and highlight Ohio’s indispensable contributions to our nation’s past, present, and future – a very positive mission and something we can all do together,” said Rep. Holmes, who jointly sponsored the resolution. “Genuine thanks to all of you for helping us spread the message with this resolution and looking forward to the honor of serving in the Ohio House of Representatives with you on July 4th, 2026. What a great place to celebrate America’s birthday.”

“I’m proud to see HCR 6 pass the House with strong support. This resolution affirms the legislature’s commitment to honoring our country’s 250th anniversary, and puts a spotlight on Ohio's contribution to our nation’s history. The Ohio 250 Commission is working hard to ensure this milestone is celebrated all over the state,” said Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst), who jointly sponsored the bill.

The resolution reads in part “Ohioans desire to play a leading role in the nation's anniversary not just in 2026, but also in the years leading up to 2026; now therefore be it resolved, that we, the members of the 136th General Assembly of the State of Ohio, are committed to supporting the work of the Ohio Commission of the U.S. Semiquincentennial and participating fully and enthusiastically in the nation's 250th anniversary, which culminates on July 4, 2026.”
