COLUMBUS — State Reps. Ismail Mohamed (D-Columbus) and Eric Synenberg (D-Beachwood) today announced they will be introducing legislation restricting immigration enforcement actions in sensitive locations such as schools, hospitals, courthouses, places of worship, and organizations that are actively serving children, crime victims, and individuals with disabilities.

COLUMBUS, OH — State Representative Sarah Fowler Arthur (R-Ashtabula) and State Representative David Thomas (R-Jefferson) today announced the introduction of House Bill 733, legislation to add maple syrup and maple products to Ohio’s statutory list of agricultural products and qualifying properties under the Current Agricultural Use Value (CAUV) program

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Ismail Mohamed (D-Columbus) Wednesday condemned Ohio Republicans in the state legislature for failing to act on any measures that could have preserved Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for 1.4M Ohioans. Instead, in two days, more than half million children, more than 250,000 seniors, and an estimated 45,000 veterans are at risk of going hungry when the federal government defaults on its November deposit to fully fund SNAP benefit cards due to President Trump and Congressional Republicans' refusal to end the federal government shutdown.

COLUMBUS – State Reps. Ismail Mohamed (D-Columbus) and Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) Wednesday introduced legislation to help assist those who have defaulted on their rent payments, by requiring landlords to provide tenants with written notice of a rent default, including the amount owed, within 60 days of the default. Landlords would then be prohibited from filing for eviction until at least 90 days after providing notice and after offering the tenant an opportunity to negotiate a payment plan. If a tenant complies with the terms of an agreed-upon plan, the landlord would be barred from pursuing eviction.

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Ismail Mohamed (D-Columbus) today voted “NO” on the vote to override a school district property tax levy restriction provision vetoed in House Bill 96 (the state operating budget). Line-item 66 would eliminate several types of levies, limiting the choices voters have in how to support their schools and local governments, and would not provide real property tax relief to Ohioans. Real property tax relief is one of the most pressing needs for everyday Ohioans. House Democrats are ready and willing to work together to get that done.

COLUMBUS, OH – State Representatives Roy Klopfenstein (R-Haviland) and Melanie Miller (R-Ashland) recently introduced “Trey’s Law,” legislation designed to strengthen protections for victims of sexual abuse and ensure perpetrators are held accountable for their crime.
