Rep. Sims Recognizes Akron Zips Teams for MAC Championship Wins

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Veronica Sims (D-Akron) yesterday rose on the Ohio House floor to present two Resolutions to the University of Akron; one for the Women’s Swimming and Diving team, and one for the Men’s Basketball team. Both outstanding teams won their respective Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championships.

“These achievements reflect not only athletic excellence, but also the leadership of their coaches, the support of their families and university community, and the dedication these students bring both in competition and in the classroom,” said Rep. Sims. ”It is such an honor to have such an exceptional university and student body in my district. As a proud alumna of the University of Akron, I am especially proud to see these student-athletes representing Akron with such integrity, talent, and determination both on campus and beyond.”

These victories mark the fifth consecutive MAC Championship win for the Women’s Swimming & Diving team, and the third consecutive MAC Championship win for the Men’s Basketball Team. A remarkable testament of both teams’ discipline, determination, and sustained excellence. Year after year, these student athletes continue to raise the standard and represent the University of Akron with pride.

Rep. Sims presented the resolutions to the President of the University, Robert Nemer, on behalf of the Men’s Basketball Team, and to the Women’s Swimming and Diving Team along with their coaches, Brian Peresie, Marc Cahalane, and Kendall Craig.
