Rep. Sims of Ohio House District 33 Sworn Into 136th General Assembly

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Veronica Sims (D-Akron) Monday was sworn into the 136th Ohio General Assembly. Rep. Sims will be beginning her first term in the legislature, serving the people of District 33 at the Ohio Statehouse.

“There are a myriad of opportunities and challenges that lay before us, and I plan to meet them head on. I count it a tremendous privilege and honor to carry the concerns, hopes, cares, and needs of the residents of Akron/Summit County’s 33rd District to Columbus,” said Rep. Sims.

A lifelong resident of Akron, Rep. Sims earned her Master of Public Administration and Bachelors in Criminal Justice and Political Science from the University of Akron. A strong advocate in her community, she has held multiple leadership posts throughout her career in public service. These positions include, Akron Public School Board member, Akron City Council – At Large, Summit County Council President, Executive Director of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus, Director of Outreach and Community Development for Community Action Akron Summit, Regional Facility Manager for Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board. Rep. Sims is passionate about interrupting gun violence, affordable housing, criminal justice reform, senior support, and economic development, especially for small businesses. 

In addition to her public service, Rep. Sims is the Community Outreach Specialist for Stewart and Calhoun Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Rep Sims and her husband reside in Akron, Ohio and are proud parents of an adult daughter.
