Rep. Sims Announces Summit County Public Health as Grant Recipient for Infant & Maternal Health

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Veronica Sims (D-Akron) today announced that Summit County Public Health has been awarded grant funding from the Department of Children and Youth to strengthen support for pregnant women and families with infants across Ohio.
The $10M grant will support ten organizations located in counties with the highest infant mortality rates. These grantees will lead coordinated, community-based efforts to address gaps in care for pregnant women and families with infants.
“Far too many mothers and families in Summit County and across Ohio continue to face risks and challenges during pregnancy and the earliest months of their children’s lives,” said Rep. Sims. “This grant will provide our local health organizations with the resources they need to address these challenges head-on and strengthen the systems of care that families rely on. By investing in community-driven solutions and supporting trusted local partners, we can make a real difference for countless mothers and children, reduce disparities in maternal and infant health, and build a stronger, healthier future for our community.”
Through partnerships with local community and faith-based organizations, the grant will provide both physical and social support aimed at improving maternal and infant health outcomes.
Key goals of the grant include:
- Connecting families to early prenatal healthcare
- Providing parental education and support
- Strengthening community connections
- Offering crisis assistance and wraparound services
