Rep. Sims Announces Passage of State Capital Budget, Delivering Major Community Investments to Summit County
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Veronica Sims (D-Akron) today announced the passage of Senate Bill (SB) 450, the state’s biennial capital budget. The $4B investment makes appropriations for state-owned infrastructure, universities, and school districts.
In addition to the $4B, the state has also earmarked over $200M that will be directly invested into transformative community projects designed to generate further development and economic opportunity across the state.
Rep. Sims helped secure $8.4M for community projects across Summit County. $5.5M of those funds will be distributed to 14 community projects in House District 33.
“I am so excited to have obtained such meaningful investments that will aid in the strengthening of many important institutions and community spaces that make Summit County a great place to live, work, and play. The funding for these community projects will be instrumental in fortifying long-term growth in the district and all around Summit County,” said Rep. Sims.
The University of Akron will receive an additional $15.8M for building renovations, and the Department of Behavioral Health will be splitting $346.5M among multiple counties, including Summit County, for various infrastructure renovations.
SB 450 now heads to the Governor’s desk for his signature.
