COLUMBUS - State Rep. Veronica Sims (D-Akron) today announced $245K in grant funding was awarded to the Summit County Sheriff's Department and the Akron Police Department through RecoveryOhio and Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program, respectively.

“These funds are crucial in furthering crime reduction and prevention in the 33rd House District. Our community is stronger when we invest in mental health services and preventative education,” said Rep. Sims.

Since the beginning of the Ohio Violent Crime Reduction Grant program, more than $81M has been given to state law enforcement agencies around Ohio. The money that is allotted has been used for after school programs and improving technology to aid in the actions being taken to prevent and solve incidents of violent crime.

RecoveryOhio focuses on the prevention of illegal drug trafficking, mental health services and in-school education programs. This round of funding will mark the 13th round of distribution for the program. RecoveryOhio will be granting $2.4M to numerous law enforcement agencies.
