COLUMBUS – State Representative Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) released the following statement regarding House Bill (HB) 6:

COLUMBUS – State Representatives Joe Miller (D-Amherst), Thomas West (D-Canton) and Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) have introduced two related bills that would tackle key issues surrounding police departments in Ohio. The legislation would ultimately allow the chief of police of a municipal corporation to conduct training schools for prospective law enforcement officers. The goal is to create a new unclassified position called “cadets” within the police department, allow for exceptional appointment of candidates with ideal qualifications and resolve any issues regarding lateral transfers within statutory cities.  

Democratic Leader Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron) today joined Dem lawmakers to urge House Republican leaders to call the chamber back into session to address several critical issues facing the state, including health and the economy amid the coronavirus pandemic, systemic racism and police brutality, questions surrounding the November election, and looming state budget shortfalls.

COLUMBUS — In response to the recent killing of George Floyd and the resulting protests across the nation, State Rep. Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) today issued the following statement highlighting the need for legislation to address the lack of economic opportunities in Ohio for people of color.

COLUMBUS— Rep. Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland), vice chair of the OHIO 2020 Task Force, voiced frustration following yet another meeting where none of the presenters were minorities or women and the primary concern of all of the presenters seemed to be re-opening the state as soon as possible.

COLUMBUS—Yesterday, State Rep. Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) was named vice chairman of a bipartisan work group, OHIO 2020, to aid in the state’s economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. House Democrats formed similar work groups in recent weeks, releasing short and long-term priorities to benefit those hit hardest by the pandemic. Upchurch released the following statement:

Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) released a statement today following the unanimous passage of an omnibus bill (HB 197) that would prohibit utility shut-offs, waive state testing requirements, freeze EdChoice eligibility, extend voting in the primary election, postpone the state income tax filing deadline among several other measures.

COLUMBUS– State Rep. Terrence Upchurch (D- Cleveland) today announced that the East Side Jobs Fair and Resource Expo originally scheduled for Saturday, March 14 will be postponed to prevent the spread of COVID-19, commonly known as coronavirus.
