COLUMBUS – State Rep. Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) today released the following statement concerning Governor Mike DeWine’s decision to send 150 National Guard members to support the District of Columbia National Guard:

“The decision to send National Guard Troops to Washington D.C. is a gross overreach of executive power. Ohio’s Guard Troops volunteered for their community so that they could address real crises and problems, and they should not be exploited for the benefit of Trump’s agenda.

The young men and women who serve did not join to be used for political theater. Ohio’s political leaders have a responsibility to our communities and our troops, to use resources appropriately and keep our families safe, and the deployment of Ohio’s Guard Troops to D.C. accomplishes neither.

The governor needs to act quickly to bring our troops home so we can focus on the issues that matter,” said Rep. Upchurch.
