COLUMBUS – State Representative Steve Demetriou (R-Bainbridge Twp.) took the oath of office Tuesday for his first term as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives. He represents the 35th House District, which encompasses southern Geauga County, south and eastern Portage County, and portions of eastern Summit County.

“So many hard working people from my district helped me get here with their support and confidence” said Demetriou. “I won’t forget their investment in me, and I look forward to delivering for my neighbors in the Statehouse. I feel very blessed to have my wife and sons by my side today as I get sworn in.”

Prior to his election, Demetriou served in the U.S. Army as an infantry officer. He completed Army Ranger School and earned his jump wings after attending Airborne training. During his service, Demetriou served in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. He received a Bronze Star Medal for his meritorious service.

Demetriou is also a small-business owner that grew his first company from three to more than 60 employees. He now runs an investment business with his family.

Demetriou and his wife Carly, a former schoolteacher, have a one year old son named Steven and welcomed their second child, Teddy, in August. They are parishioners of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church where Demetriou serves on the Parish Council.

Demetriou was sworn in during Tuesday’s session, which marked the beginning of the 135th General Assembly.
