COLUMBUS –State Representative Steve Demetriou (R-Bainbridge Twp.) has announced the Ohio Department of Transportation Parkman Outpost will be removing the salt barn after local residents discovered contaminants in their well water.

Demetriou worked with the ODOT, the Ohio EPA, Gov. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted after Parkman residents brought the issue to his attention

“This was a situation that needed to be addresses,” said Demetriou. “Public safety must always be the priority and I’m glad I could help bring attention to this issue on behalf of the residents of Parkman.  Gov. DeWine, Lt. Gov. Husted and ODOT all worked swiftly to help correct this issue and I thank them for their efforts.”

Road salt runoff from the Parkman Outpost had been detected by nearby residents who were concerned about the safety of their drinking water. After Demetriou got involved, the Ohio EPA conducted well tests to determine if the wells were contaminated. After further consideration the governor decided to remove the salt from the facility.

The salt will be moved to a newly opened ODOT facility in Munson in the beginning of June with a complete disassembly and cleanup of the Parkman Outpost by the end of June.
