Today, State Rep. Sharon Ray (R-Wadsworth) was officially sworn-in for her first term of office as the state representative for the 69th Ohio House District. The district includes most of Medina County and Ray is the first female of the district to hold this seat.

“I’m excited about the make-up of this Legislature, we have a diverse and unique mix of Representatives,” said Ray. “I believe this will bring forth some creative solutions for the people of Ohio as we move through these difficult times.”

Ray has a strong background in public service and intends to bring this experience to the Statehouse. Ray has previously served as Medina County Commissioner and as Wadsworth City Councilwoman. She has also sat on the Medina County Board of Elections, United Way of Medina County, Red Cross of Medina County, Community Partnership for Arts and Culture, and the Salvation Army of Wadsworth.

Ray began her career working at Roadway Express (now YRC Worldwide) and later went on to become a Certified Bailiff at the Wadsworth Municipal Court. She also worked as the Community Services Director/Probation Officer at the municipal court.

Ray made note of several of her priorities for the upcoming year.

“I’m passionate about easing the adoption process and supporting our foster care system; the opioid epidemic has produced a generation of orphans that deserve loving families.  I am also interested in expanding the technical and vocational programs in our schools, so we graduate workforce-ready young adults,” said Ray.

Ray also acknowledged her prior experience as a public official will help with handling the upcoming operating budget.

“I have the ability to hit the ground running, as I have worked with local, county, and judicial budgets,” Ray added.

Wadsworth Mayor Robin Laubaugh touted Ray’s experience and anticipates a strong professional relationship in her new role as state representative.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to have Representative Sharon Ray serving not only the community of Wadsworth but also the entire district,” said Mayor Laubaugh. “I have full confidence she’ll do a great job in representing our area. She has distinguished herself as a councilwoman, a commissioner, and all her work as a public servant. I look forward to continuing our service together to fulfill the needs of the people of our community.”

Today’s swearing-in ceremony of legislators marks the beginning of the 134th General Assembly.
