COLUMBUS – State Rep. Sharon Ray (R-Wadsworth) was recently recognized by the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association (OPRA) as the Public Official of the Year.

Ray championed more than $4.5 million in the state’s capital budget for fiscal years 2024-25 for park and recreation projects in Medina County.

“Our parks are a gift that can be enjoyed by all—a legacy for generations to come,” said Ray. “I am so grateful to be selected for this award.”

"Simply, Representative Ray gets it," said OPRA Executive Director, Woody Woodward. "She understands the power of parks and recreation to improve the lives of the people in Ohio and she has been an effective advocate for parks and recreation at the Statehouse. More than that, she listens, does her homework, and approaches the legislative task seriously. We are proud that she is our Public Official of the Year."

Medina County Park Director, Nate Eppink nominated Ray for the award.

“Rep. Ray has a proven record of supporting what we do as an association, from visiting local parks with her grandson and attending park events to speaking with OPRA members about critical issues and regularly funding improvements,” said Eppink. “Rep. Ray is deserving of being recognized as a friend of the profession.”
