Rep. Brennan Passes Legislation Honoring Louis Paul Shuster
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Sean Patrick Brennan (D-Parma) announces the passage of House Bill (HB) 380, a road naming omnibus bill. HB 381, included in this omnibus bill, would designate the interchange of I-480 and West 150th Street in Cleveland as the “Louis P. Shuster Interchange” after Louis Paul Shuster. He was a proud member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) as well as a father, a brother, a son, and veteran.
Louis Shuster was riding on his Norfolk-Southern railcar when the railcar was tragically and fatally struck by a dump truck. Brother Lou was only 46 years old.
“What an honor it is to do my part to honor Lou Shuster. He served our nation and was a hard-working union trainman whose life was cut way too short,” said Rep. Brennan. “I want to thank my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for their support on this bill.”
Brother Lou Shuster began his career as a train conductor in 2005, after serving our country in the U.S. Army, and was promoted to locomotive engineer in 2014. He became a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen in 2016 and served on the Board as the Veterans Affairs Delegate for Norfolk-Southern and the Wheeling-Lake Erie.
At home, Brother Lou was a son and a caregiver to his parents, a dedicated father, a loving brother, and a loyal friend. Amongst his brotherhood, he is remembered for being active in helping veterans who worked on the railroad and across his community. He will be honored for all the lives he has touched.
Exit 12A is where many of his fellow BLET brothers and sisters get off I-480 to get to the train yard located right off the highway on Cleveland’s West 150th Street. Designating this exit as the “Louis P. Shuster Memorial Interchange” may serve as an enduring reminder of his life and work.
HB 380 now heads to the Senate for concurrence.
