Rep. Brennan Announces Cuyahoga County Received More Than $44.3M in Brownfield Remediation Awards
COLUMBUS — State Rep. Sean Patrick Brennan (Parma) Monday announced that Cuyahoga County has received more than $44.3M through the Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program to help clean up and redevelop hazardous brownfield sites, creating new employment and development opportunities.
“I was honored to cast my vote to support the cleanup of contaminated properties in our communities. These funds will be put to good use making our neighborhoods safer, creating jobs, and supporting growing the local economy for the benefit of all,” said Rep. Brennan.
Projects that will be funded are:
- Cleveland Riverfront Development: $10M
- Former National Acme Site: $7.6M
- Former Sears Southland Shopping Center: $5.6M
- Juvenile Justice Center: $6.8M
- Memphis and Pearl: $2M
- Sherwin Williams Research & Development Campus Revitalization: $10M
- Shoreway Tower: $2.3M
Today’s announcement includes approximately $102.4M for 35 cleanup and remediation projects and roughly $4.5M for 26 assessment projects across 22 counties. Funds awarded will help assess and clean up industrial, commercial, and institutional brownfield sites that have been abandoned, idled, or underutilized due to a known or potential release of hazardous substances or petroleum.
The Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program is funded by the Ohio General Assembly as part of the current operating budget, which Rep. Brennan supported.
