COLUMBUS — State Rep. Elgin Rogers Jr. (D-Toledo) traveled to Jerusalem Township this week to assess damage caused by severe flooding and meet with first responders, local officials, and residents affected by the storm.

Heavy rainfall flooded homes and roads throughout the township, prompting road closures and an around the clock emergency response. Residents are urged to avoid contact with floodwater, which may contain raw sewage and other contaminants, according to the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department.

“This has been a tough week for Jerusalem Township, but what stands out is the resilience of its residents,” said Rep. Rogers. “I was grateful to be on the ground, listen to families, and see firsthand the compassion and commitment of everyone working to help the community recover. This is what leadership looks like.”

According to the Ohio Emergency Management Agency, all affected counties are working to complete their damage assessments by July 24. Once those assessments are finalized, the state will be in a better position to determine what resources may be available to support recovery efforts.

Rep. Rogers thanked the Jerusalem Township Fire Department, Fire Chief Tony Parasiliti, EMS personnel, volunteers, the Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District, and Ed Nagle for providing the use of his vehicle so Rep. Rogers and Rep. Haraz N. Ghanbari (R-Perrysburg) could safely assess the flooding and support residents during the response.

Rep. Rogers remains committed to working with local and state partners to help Jerusalem Township recover from the flooding.
