Rep. Oelslager Votes to Confirm Tressel as Lt. Governor
COLUMBUS— State Representative Scott Oelslager (R-North Canton) voted on Wednesday to confirm Jim Tressel as the next lieutenant governor of Ohio.
Tressel most recently served as the president of Youngstown State University before retiring in 2023. Tressel also served 15 years as the head coach of Youngstown State University's football team before becoming head football coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes for 10 seasons. After leaving Ohio State, he served as executive vice president for student success at the University of Akron.
The Ohio Senate also voted on Wednesday to confirm Tressel as lieutenant governor. According to the Ohio Constitution, whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the lieutenant governor, the governor shall nominate a lieutenant governor, who shall take office upon confirmation by vote of a majority of the members elected to each house of the General Assembly.
