Ohio House Passes Legislation to Continue the State Capital Improvement Program
COLUMBUS—The Ohio House of Representatives this week passed House Joint Resolution 8, bipartisan legislation to provide Ohio voters the opportunity to renew the Public Works Commission State Capital Improvement Program (SCIP), announced resolution sponsor, State Rep. Scott Oelslager (R-North Canton). Oelslager is sponsoring the legislation alongside State Rep. Daniel Troy (D-Willowick).
SCIP, currently scheduled to sunset on July 1, 2026, provides funding for local, critical infrastructure projects throughout Ohio. This resolution will allow the program to continue for another 10 years.
“To invest in critical infrastructure is to invest in economic development and the future of our state,” said Oelslager. “It has been an honor to champion this program and I look forward to watching it continue to positively impact our communities.”
Oelslager and Troy sponsored the original legislation that created the program in 1987. If passed, this will be the 5th time this program has been before the Ohio voters after being originally approved in 1987 and renewed in 1995, 2005 and 2014.
H.J.R 8 now heads to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
