Oelslager Reminds Schools of Safety Grants Still Available
COLUMBUS — State Representative Scott Oelslager (R- North Canton) wants to remind Ohio schools there is still time to apply for $11 million worth of school safety grants for the 2022-2023 school year.
The funding for the school safety program was made available through the state operating budget, House Bill 110, passed by the general assembly last year. Funds are available to traditional public schools, charter schools, educational service centers, STEM schools and schools operated by county developmental disabilities boards.
“School funding was a priority in the budget and these funds in particular are critical in helping create an environment where Ohio students can learn safely,” said Oelslager.
Each school is eligible to receive $2,500 or $5.50 per student, whichever is greater.
Grant funds can be used for school resource officer certification training, active shooter and school safety training, or resources to assist students struggling with mental health issues.
School officials can apply for funding through the state's online grants portal at https://grants.ohio.gov/fundingopportunities.aspx.
