Oelslager Provides Legislative Update from Ohio House

COLUMBUS—Speaker Pro Tempore Scott Oelslager (R-North Canton) is pleased to announce the recent passage of multiple important pieces of legislation. 

“In everything I do, whether it is in Columbus or back in my home district of Stark County, I will continue to make your priorities my priorities,” said Oelslager.

Each bill is highlighted below: 

  • Enter the Dentist and Dental Hygienist Compact (81-11): Senate Bill 40 will join Ohio to the “Dentist and Dental Hygienist Licensure Compact,” an interstate occupational licensure compact for dentists and dental hygienists.
  • Strong Foundations Act (72-20): Co-sponsored by Oelslager, House Bill 7 will address Ohio’s staggering infant and maternal mortality rates and improve mothers’ and infants’ health, learning, and developmental outcomes.
  • Establish Foster-to-College Scholarship Program (85-5): Co-sponsored by Oelslager, House Bill 164 will support foster youth in their pursuit of higher education by creating new scholarship opportunities.
  • Never Alone Act (88-0): House Bill 236 will ensure every patient has access to an advocate to be with them in a hospital, nursing home, or other congregate care setting, especially during a health emergency.
  • Permit homestead exemption-surviving spouses of service members (90-1): Co-sponsored by Oelslager, House Bill 378 will extend existing homestead exemptions to surviving spouses of a uniformed service member killed in the line of duty.
  • C.R.O.W.N. Act (83-8): House Bill 178 will establish protections for natural hair styles in Ohio schools.  
  • Condemn People's Republic of China for global drug trade role (88-0): Co-sponsored by Oelslager, House Concurrent Resolution 11 will condemn the People’s Republic of China for their role in creating the global drug crisis which has led to widespread addiction.
