Oelslager Provides Legislative Update from Ohio House

COLUMBUS—Speaker Pro Tempore Scott Oelslager (R-North Canton) is pleased to announce another round of important bills that recently passed out of the Ohio House of Representatives.
Each bill is highlighted below:
- Revise the Liquor Control Laws (86-6): House Bill 86 expands opportunities for small businesses by increasing micro-distillery production limits and revising the cost for liquor tasting samples.
- Eliminate retention under the Third Grade Reading Guarantee (85-9): House Bill 117 eliminates the requirement that third graders be retained based on their third grade English Language Arts assessment score.
- Increasing Legal Protections for Guardian ad Litems and Court Appointed Special Advocates (64-28): House Bill 122 makes it a first-degree misdemeanor for someone to abuse, threaten, or harass a guardian ad litem or a court-appointed special advocate in carrying out their court-mandated duties.
- The Commercial Roofing Contractors Act (63-28): House Bill 129 adds a commercial roofing licensing section under The Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board (OCILB) structure that mirrors other specialties and establishes standards.
- Madeline’s Law (86-8): Co-sponsored by Oelslager, House Bill 152 requires health plan issuers to cover hearing aids and related services for persons 21 years of age and younger.
- Regards immunity from liability for donations of perishable food (90-2): Senate Bill 16 extends immunity from civil liability to nonprofits who charge the amount sufficient to cover the cost of handling perishable food.
These pieces of legislation move to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
