Oelslager Highlights Recently Passed House Bills

COLUMBUS—Speaker Pro Tempore Scott Oelslager (R-North Canton) is pleased to announce the recent passage of a number of important House Bills. 

Each bill is highlighted below: 

  • Authorize Certain Public Bodies to Meet Virtually (74-3): House Bill 257 will allow certain public bodies to meet virtually by means of teleconference, video conference, or any other similar electronic technology
  • Eliminate Spousal Exceptions for Certain Sex Offenses (75-1): Co-sponsored by Oelslager, House Bill 161 will eliminate spousal exceptions for sexual assault.
  • Increase Assault Penalties if the Victim is a Sports Official (71-6): House Bill 139 will increase the penalty for assaulting a sports official in order to more closely align with the protection afforded to bus drivers, teachers, and administrators.
  • Require ODNR to Inquire About Organ Donation (77-0): House Bill 256 will require ODNR to inquire about organ donation when someone registers for a hunting or fishing license. 
  • Revise the Ohio Carpenters License Plate (69-7): Co-sponsored by Oelslager, House Bill 176 will create a charitable donation when applying for the “Ohio Carpenters” license plate and allow motorcycle riders to apply for the “Ohio Carpenters” license plates.
  • Designate Sheriff Dale R. Williams Memorial Highway (76-0): House Bill 81 will designate a portion of State Route 39 between Carrollton and Dellroy as “Sheriff Dale R. Williams Memorial Highway.” The bill honors Sheriff William’s legacy of public service. 
  • Designate Keith Earley Memorial Interchange (74-0): House Bill 54 will designate the interchange between I-475 and Dorr Street as the “Keith G. Earley Memorial Interchange.” Keith Earley served as Lucas County Engineer for 19 years. 
  • Designate Cleveland Firefighter Johnny Tetrick Memorial Highway (75-0): Co-sponsored by Oelslager, House Bill 107 will designate a portion of Interstate 90 in Cuyahoga County as the “Cleveland Firefighter Johnny Tetrick Memorial Highway.” Johnny Tetrick sacrificed his life assisting in a car crash. 
  • Designate Caitlin Renee Preston Memorial Highway (75-0): House Bill 75 will designate a portion of State Route 72 in Greene County as the Caitlin Renee Preston Memorial Highway. The bill honors the legacy of Caitlin Renee Preston, who tragically passed away in May of 2019 due to a car accident.
