Oelslager Announces Controlling Board Approval of School Funding, Other Measures
State Rep. Scott Oelslager (R–North Canton), who sits on the State Controlling Board, announced that the body recently approved coronavirus relief funding to support local schools preparing for the beginning of the upcoming school year.
“To help provide for schools as they begin planning for how their academic year is going to be implemented, the Controlling Board approved the release of this substantial local school funding,” said Oelslager. “This will tremendously help them moving forward as they face the challenges being imposed due to the pandemic.”
According to the Ohio Office of Budget and Management (OBM), the federal coronavirus relief aid can be used for a variety of needs, including protective equipment, cleaning and sanitation, and remote learning.
The school funding approved is being distributed based on enrollment. Additionally, there is funding to support students with disabilities and economically disadvantaged students, as well as transportation obligations.
Here are the school district allocations approved by the Controlling Board within the 48th Ohio House District:
- North Canton - $209,389
- Jackson Local - $290,571
- Plain Local - $323,078
- Perry Local - $235,189
- Fairless - $82,256
Additionally, Oelslager and the Controlling Board approved capital funds to go toward patient area safety improvements at the Heartland Behavioral Healthcare and for capital funds to the Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility.
