In Case You Missed It: Updates from Representative Scott Oelslager - Feb. 28, 2020
Over the past few weeks I’ve come across several things in the news that I wanted to share. A lot has been happening in the state of Ohio, including the release of a new draft of the Ohio Domestic Action Plan and coronavirus screening recommendations for paramedics and EMTs.
The Ohio Domestic Action Plan: The Ohio Domestic Action Plan outlines specific strategies through which state agencies hope to achieve by 2025 the 40% nutrient reduction target under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. The plan has yet to be finalized, but state agencies say this plan will enhance the state’s efforts to address water quality under the new H2Ohio Fund.
BMV Now Sending License Renewal Reminders: As of January 31, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles will send driver’s license renewal reminder emails to Ohioans who choose to opt-in to the service on the BMV website. Email reminders will include a link to a list of documents required to help customers verify they have all necessary documents. For more information on how to opt-in to the service, visit www.bmv.ohio.gov.
State Gets Mixed Grades on Tobacco Policies: The state received mixed grades in the American Lung Association’s annual State of Tobacco Control report card. The state received A’s in smoke-free air and tobacco 21 policies, but a D in access to cessation services and F’s in tobacco taxes and prevention and cessation funding.
Paramedics and EMTs Advised to Screen for Coronavirus: Ohio’s emergency medical responders have been told to screen patients with flu-like symptoms for possible exposure to coronavirus. Instructions from the state’s medical director recommends EMTs and paramedics wear protective equipment and clean their vehicles with bleach.
ODE Seeking Nonprofit Partners: The Ohio Department of Education is looking for nonprofit agencies across the state to participate in the 2020 Summer Food Service Program as meal site hosts or sponsors. The Summer Food Service Program serves children from birth through age 18 over summer break when children do not have access to school breakfast or lunch. Since 2014, participation in the program has increased by more than 10 percent.
