A Legislative Update, November 4, 2019
The House was successful in passing several pieces of legislation last week including updates to Ohio’s humane society law and the tax code. In addition, on Monday, November 4 the Controlling Board approved the release of funds to Heartland Behavioral Healthcare.
My colleagues in the Ohio House and I work hard to improve the lives of the Ohioans we represent, and I appreciate the opportunity to update you on these and other issues before us in the legislature.
Revising Humane Society Law: House Bill 24 improves public accountability for humane society organizations and their agents, and encourages a more consistent and coordinated enforcement of animal cruelty laws. House Bill 24 passed out of the House unanimously, and now heads to the Senate for further consideration.
Tax Code Streamlining and Correction Act: House Bill 197, known as the Tax Code Streamlining and Correction Act, corrects over 100 errors in Ohio’s tax code. These updates include addressing typographical errors, incorrect cross-references, removing obsolete sections, and rearranging organizational defects. House Bill 197 passed the House with unanimous support.
Controlling Board Release of Funds for Heartland Behavioral Healthcare: The Controlling Board approved the release of $21,070 to Heartland Behavioral Healthcare. Part of a larger, ongoing project, the capital funds will be used for Patient Area Safety Improvements, including special inspections and professional design services. Heartland Behavioral Healthcare is a state-owned and operated in-patient behavioral healthcare facility located in Massillon.
