Ohio House Overrides SAFE Act Veto
COLUMBUS –State Representative Sarah Fowler Arthur (R-Ashtabula) issued the following statement in response to the Ohio House overriding the Save Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act and the Save Women’s Sports Act veto:
“Yesterday’s vote marked another victory for the safety and freedom of women and children in Ohio. After years of diligent work and extensive legislative hearings, the Ohio House voted 65 to 28 to override the Governor’s veto of House Bill 68.
“As stated by the bill sponsor, it is hard to fathom that we live in a society that would tell children they should choose drugs and scalpels to live their authentic lives and should make that life-altering choice while still a child. Today, we continued the push for freedom from these horrific, harmful, and hurtful messages by once again voting to protect Ohio’s women and children in their most basic human rights.
“Children should be allowed to grow up, enjoying the innocence of childhood, before committing to irreversible life-altering decisions regarding their identity and physical attributes.
“We look forward to our colleagues in the Ohio Senate joining us soon and reaffirming these basic rights and safeguards for women and children in Ohio.”
