Legislation Honoring Staff Sergeant Goudy Passes the General Assembly
COLUMBUS – State Representative Ron Ferguson’s (R-Wintersville) legislation designating a portion State Route 7 in Belmont County as the “SSG Garren Ray Goudy Memorial Highway” was amended into Substitute House Bill 578 and passed by the Ohio House and Senate.
Born and raised in Powhatan Point, Staff Sergeant Goudy enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after graduating high school and volunteered to serve in Vietnam. Tragically, Mr. Goudy was killed in the line of duty at only 28 years old.
“I am honored to sponsor legislation recognizing Staff Sergeant Goudy, who paid the ultimate sacrifice while fighting for his country,” Ferguson said.
Sub. H.B. 578 will name the northbound and southbound lanes of State Route 7, between the northern border of Powhatan Point and Pipe Creek Road in Belmont County, in SSG Goudy’s honor.
The bill now heads to Governor DeWine for signature.
