Robb Blasdel's Bill Streamlining Tax Filing Process to Help Businesses Passes Ohio House
Legislation to modernize and streamline the municipal net profits tax regarding remote work passed today in the Ohio House, which was spearheaded by State Rep. Monica Robb Blasdel (R-Columbiana County). The representative spoke to the bill on the House floor.
“By streamlining tax filings, reducing administrative burdens, and providing a simplified method for businesses to calculate their tax liabilities, we enable companies to allocate resources more efficiently,” Robb Blasdel said. “This will foster reinvestment in their operations, drive economic growth, and create new opportunities for job seekers.”
House Bill 121 simplifies and modernizes the municipal net profits tax filing process in relation to remote work, which allows businesses to apportion net profits of remote workers to the principal place of business or similar qualifying location. In practice, that same business headquartered in Columbus, instead of requiring separate apportionment, could consolidate the net profit tax liability to the location of their primary headquarters.
Robb Blasdel notes the bill reduces unnecessary compliance burdens on businesses and ensures that Ohio businesses remain free to attract and hire remote workers throughout the state as they see fit. Additionally, the temporary law was tested during the COVID-19 pandemic and was considered successful as it reduces the compliance burden for businesses.
“By embracing tax simplification and supporting the growth of our businesses, we can build a stronger, more vibrant economy in Ohio,” Robb Blasdel added.
The legislation now moves to the Senate for further consideration.
