Rep. Lawson-Rowe Votes "NO" On Veto Override
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Meredith Lawson-Rowe (D-Reynoldsburg) voted “NO” on the votes to override a budget provision vetoed in House Bill 96 (the state operating budget) that would eliminate replacement and emergency levies.
“Contrary to some beliefs, just shifting the tax burden of certain entities will not provide real property tax relief to Ohioans,” said Rep. Lawson-Rowe. “Governor DeWine recognized that this harmful line-item in the state budget would cause more schools to close, local public services to be cut, and would cause more stress than relief.”
During this General Assembly, several bipartisan pieces of legislation have been introduced that would truly help Ohioans lower their property taxes, including:
- HB 103 (Troy, T. Hall) - Double Homestead Exemption for Seniors
- HB 143 (Brennan, Mathews) - Double Homestead Exemption for Long-Term Homeowners
- HB 156 (Isaacsohn, T. Hall) - Freeze Property Taxes for Seniors
- HB 365 (Brennan, D. Hall) - Enact the Property Tax Refund Act
None of these have received serious consideration this General Assembly.
The question of overriding the Governor’s veto of this provision of the budget now advances to the Senate for consideration.
