COLUMBUS — State Representative Melanie Miller (R-Ashland) today announced that she and the members of the Ohio House of Representatives Pro-Life Caucus have sent a formal letter to President Donald J. Trump and Vice President JD Vance calling for urgent federal action to restrict access to the abortion drug mifepristone and its newly approved generic versions.

In the letter, the caucus voices strong support for the recent efforts of 51 Republican U.S. Senators, led by Senator Lindsey Graham, who urged the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to reevaluate the drug’s safety and reconsider its approval.

The lawmakers commend HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and FDA Commissioner Dr. Martin Makary for their stated commitment to conducting a rigorous scientific review of mifepristone following concerns about discrepancies in the drug’s safety record.

“Ohio has been steadfast in protecting life, and our state’s pro-life laws reflect the values of the people we represent,” said Rep. Miller. “Yet dangerous chemical abortion drugs continue to pour into our state, circumventing the protections we’ve put in place. We are calling on the administration to ensure that federal policy does not undermine Ohio’s sovereignty or the health and safety of women.”

The letter highlights the risks associated with mifepristone, citing complications such as severe hemorrhage, infection, and maternal death, and urges the administration to take swift and decisive action.

“President Trump and Vice President Vance have consistently championed the rights of the unborn and the rights of states to enact laws that reflect their citizens’ values,” the letter states. “We urge the administration to build on this leadership by reversing unsafe and ideologically driven Biden-era policies.”
